My Second Blogiversary contest ended last night, and I would just like to thank you all for the lovely comments and again for the support. :) I did a /roll 1-38 this morning, and as you can see from the screenshot above it landed on 29 and then 6.

That means the winner of the Crawling claw pet is: Akira Voorhees

The winner of a TCG pet of your choice from the ones I listed is: Cain

The winners have been contacted via email, and will have a week from the time of publishing this post to respond. If prizes go unclaimed, I will do another /roll in game to determine another winner.

Congratulations to the winners!

Prince Lakma (The Last Chimaerok)

A couple of weeks ago one of my readers reminded me about this rare. I had taken all sorts of screenshots of him over a year ago and somehow just never got around to writing about him. Well, I've been following this guy around for the past few days, and with bags chock full of Chimaerok Tenderloin - I'm ready to give you all the skinny on him.

Prince Lakma (perhaps the son of Lord Lakmaeran?) is a level 87 rare chimaera with approximately 4.2M health. You can find him flying around the lush green area in the mountains between Feralas and Silithus. I marked his patrol route in red on the maps below.

Now here is the interesting thing about this rare - because his patrol route spans two different zones (and I'm assuming because of CRZ) it is possible to find two versions of him up at any given time.

In the video below you can see my hunter tame him in Silithus, and then find and kill him in Feralas only moments later. All you need to do is move back and forth between the zone lines and wait a few moments. If he is up in either zone he should show up within a half a minute or so. The spot where I waited for him was at about 21.8, 6.0 (in Silithus) and then moving north ever so slightly to 48.0, 79.0 where the zone changes to Feralas.

This guy only has one notable drop, and that is Chimaerok Tenderloin. He generally drops about a full stack of them. This item is used in the epic cooking recipe Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops. This is the only epic quality recipe in game; it used to be obtainable via the quest: Recipe: Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops which was part of the Scepter of the Shifting Sands quest line. The quest can no longer be completed since Cataclysm, therefore the only way this recipe can be obtained these days is to trade/purchase it from another player who still has the unlearned recipe.

For level 90's he is not difficult to kill. His lightning shield hit my character for less than 1k each tick, and I hardly had to worry about keeping my pet healed.

Prince Lakma is also tamable by hunters. Those looking to tame him will need to be at least level 87 and in Beast Mastery spec to tame him. Note that he is immune to Freezing Trap

Prince Laka Tamed
His spawn timer seems to be somewhere in the range of 1 - 2 hours.

Remember, if you find him - be sure to look for the second version of him while your there!

Wetlands Rare Spawns

Wetlands is a very aptly-named, swampy and predominantly Alliance zone. Throughout your sodden travels, keep your eyes out for twelve rares that call Wetlands their home.

Probably one of the more well-known rares in this zone is the Razormaw Matriarch, who used to drop the Razormaw Hatchling pet. This pet no longer drops from her, and can now be looted directly from her nest which can be found right near by her spawn point. (Nest shown in screenshots below.) You can find her in the cave at Raptor Ridge. When you enter the cave, simply stick to your right. She spawns at the end of the peninsula in the cavern filled with shallow water. She is also tamable, although not unique.

Leech Widow, the green and black spider, can also be found in a cave (Thelgen Rock). The entrance is at 53.2, 62.9. She is located deep inside, beside the large shallow pool of water. Again, she is tamable but not unique. Sludginn can be found in the bottom of Ironbeard's Tomb, and he is HUGE. He takes up the entire area! The rest of the rares in this zone can be found outdoors.

Chops, the brownish green and orange crocolisk (pictured on the right), is a brand new rare to the zone (added in patch 5.1). You'll find him swimming around in the river between Wetlands and Arathi Highlands. To get to him by foot simply head north over the Thandol Span and make a right. There is a path leading down to the water from Arathi. Due to CRZ, you probably won't see him until you cross over into Wetlands (down by the water). If he's up you won't miss him because he's quite large. He is tamable, and although not unique you won't find another croc to tame that shares his same model and coloration until reaching the mid-level 80's and heading to Uldum.

Northern Barrens Rare Spawns

$

The Barrens. Ahhhh, this zone brings back some fond memories. Barrens chat, pvp at The Crossroads, the first instance I ever stepped foot in (Wailing Caverns), and of course, who could forget Mankrik's wife? Well unfortunately that mega-jerk Deathwing tore the zone in half when Cataclysm came and funked everything up. Fortunately the rares weren't scared off though, as a matter of fact you can still find sixteen of them in Northern Barrens!

Tamable Rares:

Three of these rares are tamable by hunters. You do not have to be beast mastery spec to tame any of them. Humar the Pridelord, the black lion (pictured on the right), used to have a one of a kind unique look and was very highly sought after pre-wotlk. Although I'm sure he's still sought by hunters these days (especially lowbies), there are now two other cats that look just like him. One of those is The Dark Prowler, a level 21 rare in Hillsbrad Foothills (added in patch 5.1). The other is Pitch, the level 76 quest npc in Sholazar Basin. You can find Humar resting under a large tree just north of Ratchet. (On a side note, some of you may remember the wonderful story that Erinys of the Harpy's Nest blog wrote for my 1st blogiversary contest last year about Humar. If you haven't read it yet - please do! It's an amazing story about the bond between hunter & pet, and just an all around wonderful read.)

Dishu, the orange spotted cat, looks exactly like a druid's travel form (pre-mop). Dishu has three different spawn points northwest of The Crossroads. Currently with Battlefield: Barrens going on, Dishu's south-west spawn point is right on top of a hay bale next to a Kor'kron structure.

Takk the Leaper used to drop the Leaping Hatchling pet. These days he no longer drops the pet. Instead it can be looted right from Takk's Nest, which has four spawn points at the base of trees in the area Takk patrols. (You can read more about the nest locations and how to find the pet in this post.) Now back to Takk - this guy can be a royal pain in the butt to find, especially for those on foot. He's not called Takk the Leaper for no reason. This raptor leaps quite high, far and FAST. When he leaps, he will stay in a spot for a few seconds and then will be off to his next destination. He can generally be found near his nest spawn points or up on the mountaintop.

Non-Tamable Rares:

Both Boahn and Trigore the Lasher can be found in the cave area just outside the Wailing Caverns instance entrance. Trigore the Lasher spawns in the large pool of water and can drop two blue-quality items: Runescale Girdle and Serpent's Kiss. Boahn has multiple spawn locations throughout the lower level of the cave. Hunters and druids can easily see if he is up and exactly where he is with Track Humanoids and Track Humanoids, respectively. Boahn also has a chance to drop a blue quality item: Boahn's Fang.

Swiftmane, the zhevra north of ratchet, is extremely fast. For anyone having difficulty catching this zippy fellow, his path is not random. Just stand in wait in an area he was just in and he will return in less than a minute.

Southern Barrens Rare Spawns

My last post covered the numerous rares in Northern Barrens. Well, now we'll be crossing the Great Divide into the Southern Barrens which contains 10 rares ranging in level from 30 - 36.

Tamable Rares

Three of the rares you can find in Southern Barrens are tamable, and one of them even has a totally unique look. Silithid Harvester, the green and pink beetle, was given a quite a make-over when Cataclysm hit. He used to be a bluish-green silithid, and has since transofrmed into what you see today. He is the only beetle currently in game with that color-scheme. You can find this big green bug just outside of Desolation Hold to the north.

Azzere the Skyblade, the red wind serpent (pictured on the right), does not have a unique look, but he is the lowest level tamable wind serpent in that color. He has a rather large patrol route just south of the Ruins of Camp Taurajo.

Snort the Heckler, the purple hyena, also does not sport a unique look. However he is the lowest level tamable purple hyena that you will find before hitting the hyenas in Tanaris. These days you can find Snort standing in the center of some large bones east of Vendetta Point.

Non-Tamable Rares

The rest of the rares in this zone are quilboars and dwarves. The four dwarves each have their very own title, and can be found in and around the Bael Modan dig. I took a screenshot and circled exactly where each of these guys can be found to make their spawn points a little more clear. (Scroll to bottom of post to see it.) Note that these dwarves are also friendly toward Alliance players.

Azshara Rare Spawns

The Evalchar - Tamed
Azshara is a level 10 - 20 zone that became a starter area for Goblins post-shattering. It's also totally shaped like the horde symbol, seriously - look at the map! How did that even happen anyway? It's crazy. Anywho, Azshara has a total of seven rares. Two of them are tamable, but only Scalebeard (the blue & yellow turtle) can be tamed by hunters leveling in the area.

The Evalcharr (pictured on the right) is also tamable - but he is an exotic pet, and therefore can only be tamed by hunters who are at least level 69 and in Beast Mastery spec. The Evalcharr is also a unique pet; meaning there are no other tamable chimearas in game that share his exact model and color.

I've stated this in the past, but I'd like to remind people that rares give a ton of xp for leveling toons. If your questing near any of their spawn points, it's definitely worth it to go out of the way a bit to see if their up.

Preview: Timeless Isle Rares (Patch 5.4 PTR)

(For the full list of rares, with map, drops, etc. be sure to check out this post:

Before the Timeless Isle opened up on the PTR I knew their'd be some rares waiting. Using my eagle eye I could spot three or four of them from a distance, and nothing excites me more in game than new rares! Well now that the Isle is open I've done a lot of exploring and would like to share some of the rares I've come across so far - and there's quite a few!

While running around on the Isle if you pay attention to your mini-map you can see where these rares are. There are elite and non-elite ones, and each type will show up differently on your mini-map. Non-elite rares will show up as a little skull, and elites will show as a skull with little orange triangles around it.

So far looting them seems similar to the Rares on the Isle of Thunder, where anyone who tags them can loot.

As your looking through these screenshots, please remember that these are from the PTR and what you see here may change before going live. As always, you can click on the pictures for a larger, more detailed view.

I was sad when I found out I couldn't tame this guy. :'(
I'm pretty excited about this guy though. If he still has this same look on live he will be the newest unique tamable rare! :)
When I first came upon this fellow he was tucked into his "Conspicuously Empty Shell".
I thought this rare was quite interesting...it's a whole pirate ship! The skeleton crew fights back with cannons.
When the ship is killed it sinks and can be looted.
This guy spawns in after helping out some ghost pirates battle over a sunken ship.
This guy is tamable. After taming him he could still be seen as a rare on my min-map (and everyone else's - this confused quite a few people!)
This guy circles around the Isle - VERY quickly.
This wiggly worm looks exactly like Bombyx, unlike Bombyx he is not tamable.
Huolon circles high in the sky on the south-eastern side of the Isle.
He spawns at the Firewalker Ruins...
...and just a short ways away is this guy.
This big guy appears in the water when you talk to the Pandaren fisherman Fin Longpaw.
This tough little bugger can be found by a tree on the Blazing Way. He has a lot of little angry friends with him.
This fellow spawns toward the front of the Cavern of Lost Spirits.
Much further down in the same cavern resides this guy.
This kitty has his own den just below the area where the bridge to Ordon Sanctuary should be.
This guy can be found off of the most southern part of the Isle.
Every now and then a giant barrel of "Really Skunky Beer" shows up in Old Pi'jiu. When all 10 of  the skunky leaks are killed Zhu-Gon will appear.
Cinderfall was standing on the bridge leading into Ordon Sanctuary right before the break.

The remaining rares I had to use an item called the "Gleaming Crane Statue" to get to. This item gave my character wings and the ability to land across the broken bridge at Ordon Sanctuary.

This rare I had to use my Eagle Eye to see. He was located in a red pool far above Ordon Sanctuary.
And finally, my favorite of these new rares that I've come across so far:

This dude is awesome. He's a rare vendor that's lookin' stylish and riding a snail! So far it looks like he sells stuff to make your perky pugs look even MORE adorable! He spawns occasionally on the outer edge of The Celestial Court.
I'm sure this isn't all of them, as a matter of fact I seem to recall seeing a ginormous rare snake as well but I guess I forgot to take a screenie of him. Definitely expect a much more detailed post on this when 5.4 gets closer to live.

The Cape of Stranglethorn Rare Spawns

$
0
0
The Cape of Stranglethorn, the southern half of what used to be Stranglethorn Vale, is home to a total of five rares.

Tamable Rares:

Scale Belly, the blue and purple basilisk (pictured on the right), had a completely different look pre-MoP. He used to be a generic looking yellow basilisk with blue accents. The paint job he sports now is totally unique, making him a pretty desirable pet for low level hunters. I'm sure someone could even come up with a cool transmog to match him (yeah, mine clashes big time I know).

Scale Belly used to be famous for dropping the Chromatic Sword. This sword has a very unique multi-color glow effect. Unfortunately he no longer drops the sword, and it cannot currently be obtained by any means in game. Well, let me take that back, technically you could still find one on the AH from someone who still has it and never equipped it - where in that case I'm guessing it would cost a fortune.

Kurmokk, the red gorilla, is also tamable. Unlike Scale Belly, he does not have a unique model. He is the lowest level tamable gorilla of this color though, and the only red one in Stranglethorn.

Non-Tamable Rares:

If you look closely at Lord Sakrasis, you will notice that he's wearing a Purple Trophy Tabard of the Illidari (well, the top half of one at least). He spawns across the rope bridge in front of the holy spring on the Naga Island.

Verifonix got a heck of a face-lift after the shattering, and is no longer hostile. He is also in a new location, all by his lonesome self by the roadside just outside of the Gurubashi Arena. Killing him rewards a small amount of reputation with Booty Bay.

Rippa, the rare frenzy in Booty Bay harbor, is one nastly little fellow. He is the same level as he was pre-cataclysm, and because of this he is much higher level than other mobs in the zone. People in their 30's leveling through should be careful not to fall off the docks and walkways; the consequences could be dire.

Northern Stranglethorn Rare Spawns

$
0
0
There are a total of seven rares that can be found in Northern Stranglethorn, three of which are tamable.

These three tamable rares are also rather unique, as they are all neutral mobs and each have their own title representing a different element. Pogeyan (pictured on the right), is <The Fire Spirit> and has a completely unique look. He spawns just west of the Tkashi Ruins and is incredibly hard to miss when he's up - he's GINORMOUS.

Pogeyan also happens to be one of my absolute favorite hunter pets. He was the first unique pet that I tamed on my night elf hunter right when she hit level 28. I still use this pretty kitty today, and I make sure any new hunters I create have him. <3

Tsul'Kalu, the massive white gorilla, represents earth as <The Earth Spirit>. He even has an earth shield floating around him. Unfortunately he doesn't retain it once tamed. He spawns directly east of where Pogeyan can be found, just across the path. He shares the same look as only one other gorilla in game, and that is Uhk'loc, a rare in Un'goro Crater.

Representing water, is Mahamba <The Water Spirit>. Mahamba is a very large crocolisk that spawns on the shore just north of the Ventire Co. Base Camp. He is probably about ten times the size as the other crocolisks in the area; you really can't miss him if he's up.

New Unique Tamable Rare & Some Trackable Pets not so unique anymore (5.4 PTR)

$
0
0
(Anything discussed in this post could very well change before going live, as this is from the PTR.)

I'm sure I'm not the only hunter out there that just can't get enough pets, especially the unique and hard to find ones. Well, when patch 5.4 hits we'll be getting at least one new unique tamable rare.

Meet Great Turtle-Furyshell.

Unfortunately, this spiked dragon turtle is one of the thirty-one rares on the Timeless Isle that needs to be killed in order to get the Timeless Champion Achievement. Not only is he required for the achievement, but he also drops Timeless Coins and potentially other nice loot such as Timeless armor (item level 496 armor pieces). For this reason, he will likely be DEAD almost immediately after spawning in on medium and high population servers. I imagine when the patch hits, that taming him will be a little difficult unless your in the right place at the right time.

If you are interested in taming this guy, he can be found all along the western coast of the Isle. I have encountered him as far north as the Horde base camp, and as far south as the Alliance camp.

Here is a super short video of taming him right next to the Alliance camp:

As you can see, he is immune to Freezing Trap but he doesn't hit very hard making the tame itself quite easy (so long as nobody comes along and attacks him).

For those of you who believe that matching mounts and pets are awesome like myself; this guy matches the Great Purple Dragon Turtle.

Great Purple Dragon Turtle & Great Turtle Furyshell
To all of the other hunters out there who will be looking for this guy, I wish you luck!

Unique trackable hunter pets - Some of them not so unique any more:

(Insert big un-smiley face here.) For those out there that haven't had luck finding Patrannache yet (or just didn't feel like taking the time to search for him), the pink crane skin can now be found all around the lower forest region on the Timeless Isle. These elite level 90 cranes (Brilliant Windfeathers) are not immune to Freezing Trap, and really have no special abilities worth mentioning that will make taming them difficult. You simply need to be level 90, and know where your Tame Beast button is.

There are three other trackable pet skins that can also be found around the island. Gu'chi the Swarmbringer is a rare that shares the same skin as Bombyx, the silkworm who leaves a trail of silkweed in Krasarang Wilds. Gu'chi the Swarmbringer cannot currently be tamed on the ptr though.

Elder Great Turtles can be found swimming just off the coast, these elite dragon turtles look exactly like Bloodtooth. They are tamable, however they are too high level too tame at level 90. The same can be said for the Primal Stalker cats around the isle. These white tigers look exactly like Savage, the trackable pet from the Jade Forest.

Personally I'm not a huge fan of these difficult to find rares being made so easy to nab. I guess it was inevitable, but still...meh. The personal challenge and sense of accomplishment of finding the trackable rares will still be there though, at least that's something.

What do you all think? Are you happy to see these skins tamable? Will you run out and tame a Brilliant Wildfeather on patch day?

Duskwood Rare Spawns

$
0
0
Duskwood, the dark and cursed level 20 - 25 Alliance zone just south of Elwynn Forest, has a total of ten rares that can be found throughout it's forests. Two of these rares are tamable, however the majority are fittingly either undead or worgen.

Tamable Rares:

Lupos (the level 20 white worg) does not have a unique skin, and beware of his melee attacks - this guy can give you Rabies! Naraxis (the level 21 red and green spider) is also not unique, but does have a pretty neat coloration in my opinion. Although her skin is fairly common now, during the Burning Crusade era the only mob that had this model and color was Terokkarantula in Terokkar Forest.

Non-Tamable Rares:

There are so many interesting rares in this zone. Each one really has their own story, and most of them even have their own titles. I'm not going to cover all of them, but I'd like to point out the ones I though were most interesting.

Watcher Eva<The Restless Dead> was the rare I found most intriguing. He is a non-hostile undead that patrols around the Tranquil Gardens Cemetery. His patrol route starts at the house of Blind Mary, then on to the campfire just outside, and then up to the graveyard. At the graveyard he will stop and kneel for a long while at one of the graves, when he stops at the campfire it almost looks as if he were preparing a meal. From there he walks back into Blind Mary's house and stands by the door where he states "They will pay for forsaking us. For leaving us amongst the beastly undead to rot..." When attacked he says "It did not have to be this way! I only wish to see my family again...to share with them this gift!" Poor fellow. I felt awful for attacking the guy.

There are two more undead rares in the zone; TheUnknown Soldier and Eliza <Bride of the Embalmer>. The Unknown Soldier can be found kneeling over his own tomb in a secluded shrine near the mountainside in Beggar's Haunt. For an unknown soldier, he sure got quite the memorial (pictured at the very end of this post). I would love to know his story.

Before cataclysm Eliza used to look like this: this. These days you can actually tell she is a woman. When aggro'd she says: "Eliza isss pretty... sssso pretty..." I guess now that she isn't the standard falling apart ghoul model she's not half bad looking.

Speaking of Cataclym model changes, Nafaru and Fenros have also gotten some face lifts. Well, sort of. Each of them used to be the badass pre-Catacysm style worgen. (The kind I was SO hoping to play when I found out they'd be playable.) Nafaru's model change also seemed to have caused a gender switch.

The Unknown Soldier's Resting Place

Timeless Isle Rares (Timeless Champion)

$
0
0
The Timeless Isle is chock full of rares. There are probably more rares packed onto this little island than anywhere else in the game. It even has all sorts of fun rare events, treasure chests, things to explore, you name it! For the purposes of this post however I will only be covering the elite and non-elite silver dragons.

Achievements:

Thirty-one of these rares are required for the achievement: Timeless Champion. (One of them that I am including in this post is not part of it, but still a silver dragon.) The items that these rares can drop are also a part of the achievement Going To Need A Bigger Bag. They aren't kidding either, we seriously need some new bags with like 50 slots for this place. That, or bottomless bags with no limit.

Loot & Tapping:

As I had mentioned in the Timeless Isle Preview post I did several weeks back, these rares have the same tapping system as the Isle of Thunder rares. You do not need to be grouped with other players to obtain loot when killing these guys. Even faction doesn't matter. As long as you participate by hitting them, you will be able to loot them. Although anyone can tap and loot, actual loot received will vary by person.

Each rare will drop several Timeless Coins. More difficult rares seem to drop more coins. They all have a chance to drop "Timeless" gear such as Timeless Leather Leggings, and also Burden of Eternity (a very nice item that will turn those leather leggings I just linked into an item level 535 item instead of 496.) Each of them also has a small chance to drop different items that the rare Pandarian Champions drop such as Big Bag of Herbs, Battle Horn, etc. Many of these rares have their own unique loot as well. As you scroll down through this post, you can see which items drop from each rare.

Finding Them:

Now as far as finding these rares - you'll probably easily stumble into more than half of them by just running around and exploring the Isle. When one is nearby you will see a small skull marked on your mini-map. I've done my best trying to make a map of where to find them all that wasn't totally funked up and as easy to read as possible. With this many rares that was not an easy task!

So anyway, here is the map below. For a more precise description of where you can find any one of these rares just scroll down through the post for that particular rare. Next to each rare I have written out more specifically where they can be found.

Timeless Isle Rare Map
Map of all rares needed for Timeless Champion Achievement (Click to Enlarge)
(To see an even larger image of this map you can also right click the image and view it in another tab. From there you should be able to zoom even further.)

I have screenshots of all of these rares below, and because there were just so many of them I decided to group them by location starting off the coast and then moving inland. To the right of many of the rares I have also included screenshots of their special drops. (There were a couple of drops that I was not able to get before running out of time. I will add those pictures to this post when I receive them or when I can bother someone who has those items!)

Originally I was going to include each rares abilities with some info on how to down them as well, but honestly there's going to be so many people molesting everything when the Isle first comes out that most of their abilities won't matter. Just don't stand in bad stuff and your pretty much good to go. For anyone that is interested in their abilities my friend Joe does a great job of describing them in the video embedded toward the end of this post.

As always, to see larger images of any of the screenshots just click on them. Enjoy!

(I should also mention, if your interested in some lore and extra flavor behind these rares be sure to check out the Time-Worn Journal sold by Mistweaver Ai for 500 Timeless Coins. The full journal text is alternatively available to read on the Wowhead page for that item.)

Timeless Champion Rares Videos:

Over the past few weeks I've had several opportunities to run around this awesome Isle with wowmartien. We kicked ass, got ours handed to us, and had a lot of fun killing rares while exploring this wondrous isle. Joe has taken hours and hours of footage and smushed them into these phenomenal guides. If you have the time, please take a look!

What!? A Friendly Rare:

Yeah, this guy is obviously not part of the Timeless Champion achievement. I mean, how could he be? You couldn't kill him if you wanted to. I'm including him in this post because he's a silver dragon and because PUGS ARE AWESOME.

Whizzig

Location: Multiple spawn points around The Celestial Court.

This rare vendor sells some adorable little hats for your Perky Pug.

He also sells:

For additional info, and for some beautiful screenshots of these rares be sure to check out Cymre's Timeless Isle Rares post! Also, be sure to check out Wowhead's Patch 5.4 Guide: Timeless Isle.

Happy Patch 5.4 everyone!

Timeless Isle Treasure

Anyone who has spent a bit of time on my blog should know that I love a good treasure hunt. From hunting down treasure chests across Azeroth on my Ironman toons, to looking for Troves of the Thunder King on the Isle of Thunder. I LOVE treasure! Well, I have to say I am in treasure heaven on the Timeless Isle!

Timeless Isle is loaded with so much treasure that there are actually multiple achievements associated with finding different kinds of treasure. Extreme Treasure Hunter, Where There's Pirates, There's Booty and Treasure, Treasure Everywhere are what I'll be covering in this post.

I have marked treasure spawn locations for all three achievements on the map below. Extreme Treasure Hunter chest locations are marked with bright green stars. Where There's Pirates, There's Booty spawns are marked with light blue stars. Treasure, Treasure Everywhere chests are marked with circles - with different colors indicating different types of chests. Skip below the map for more specific information on each achievement.

Timeless Isle Treasure Map (Click to Enlarge)
Treasure, Treasure Everywhere:

Yeah, it really is everywhere on this Island. I think I even stubbed my toe on a few of those Moss-Covered Chests. Seriously, those things are just all over the place.

Actually, there are 34 of them. However you only need to find 17 for the achievement. You will also need to find 4 sturdy chests, 2 Smoldering Chests, 1 Skull-Covered Chest, and the greatest chest of them all: the Blazing Chest.

I marked each of these chests on the map above, coded by color.

Moss-Covered Chests are light pink, and can be found all over the place. they are usually near another object such as the base of a tree/stump, in a hut or under water.

There are Four Sturdy Chests. I marked these in bright pink, and they are a little more difficult to get to. The two on the western side of the Isle are on top of plateaus, and will require a Highwind Albatross to get to. The southeastern one is in the gulp frog area - those guys hurt. The northeastern one is located in The Mysterious Den, where Spelurk spawns.

There are two Smouldering Chests, these I marked in yellow on the above map. Each one of these chest are guarded by two elite yaungol. One is in the Firewalker Ruins, the other is in the far north of The Blazing Way.

The Skull-Covered Chest can be found in the Cavern of Lost Spirits. I marked it in orange on the map above. Just head in and follow the ramp. It will be on your left.

The Blazing Chest is THE chest you want to be looting. I marked this baby in red on the map above. I chose red to stress just how important this chest is! This chest is guaranteed to contain a Burden of Eternity. This item will change any armor piece you receive on the Timeless isle into an item level 535 piece of armor! If you don't have the legendary cloak, you'll need to take a Highwind Albatross to get to this part of the Isle. The chest is located on the western part of the Sanctuary, and if you are careful you can walk up to and loot it without aggroing anything.

Blazing Chest. Just waiting to be looted...
Where There's Pirates, There's Booty:

This is true. Pirates = booty. No no, not that kind of booty, the treasure kind! This achievement will require you to loot the Sunken Treasure, Blackguard's Jetsam, and Gleaming Treasure Satchel on the Timeless Isle.

The Gleaming Treasure Satchel is probably the trickiest of these treasures to get to, but not as bad as you'd think. You can find the satchel on the same boat that Stinkbraid spawns on, all the way in the southeastern part of the zone. You'll notice the satchel hanging off the lower mast on the port side of the vessel. I've seen people trying all sorts of crazy things to get up there with no luck. The way I did it was to head to the stern (back of the ship) and then run up the rope on the starboard (right) side. When I couldn't run any further I jumped down onto the mast. Once you land on the mast your pretty much golden. Just head over to the satchel and try not to trip!

The Sunken Treasure can be found underwater in the lower compartment of the sunken ship at 40, 92. In order to open the chest you will need to kill the underwater hozen until you get a Barnacle Encrusted Key. With this key you can open the chest and get yourself a nice Cursed Swabby Helm.

Blackguard's Jetsam can be found in the underwater cave off of the western shore. The chest itself is guarded by spectral pirates. Other than that, this chest is pretty straight-forward.

I've made a short fraps video detailing exactly where and how to get to each of these items. Also, a high-five to anyone who can tell me where the music is from. :)

Extreme Treasure Hunter:

To earn this achievement you will need to find and loot the Gleaming Treasure Chest, Rope-Bound Treasure Chest, and a Mist-Covered Treasure Chest on the Timeless Isle. These aren't just chests just lying around all willy-nilly on the ground, these chests are in some crazy obscure places that your going to have to work at to loot.

The Gleaming Treasure Chest sits atop a pillar just north of Firewalker Ruins. To get to this chest, you'll need to mount up, run and jump from pillar to pillar until you reach the final pillar with the chest.

The Rope-Bound Treasure Chest can be looted once you do a little bit of tight-rope walking. When you reach the end of the path heading north on the Blazing Way, before the bridge take a right onto the pillar and then onto the rope. Just follow the rope until another one intersects underneath and jump down. Then continue until you reach the chest!

The Mist-Covered Chest (or I should say a Mist-Covered Chest, as there are many of them) can only be reached after you have found the previous two. Once you've looted both the Gleaming Treasure Chest and the Rope-Bound Treasure Chest you will be able to interact with the Gleaming Crane Statue. The statue will shoot you into the air where you will be able to loot several Mist-Covered Chests giving you your Extreme Treasure Hunter Achievement.

If you would prefer to watch exactly how to get to each of these locations, I made a quick fraps video detailing how to do so. Enjoy.

Happy treasure hunting! ^-^

Vale of Eternal Blossoms Rares - Patch 5.4

$

It's no secret that the Vale of Eternal Blossoms has become one heck of a mess and quite a bit has changed in patch 5.4. I'm not sure however, if people realize how all of these changes have effected the rares in this zone - and that they've added new rares (sort of).

Rare Champions:

The eight rares required for the Glorious! achievement, Major Nanners, Yorik Sharpeye, etc, have not really been effected. Every one of them (minus Sahn Tidehunter who moved in patch 5.3) are in the exact same locations as they were at the beginning of MoP. The only major difference you'll notice with them, is that their surroundings got uglied up.

"New" Rares in the Vale:

Before the Vale got all funked up, people working on Golden Lotus rep could get credit for killing powerful enemies at the end of a long arduous line of dailies each day. Although there were sixteen of them, only a few were available to kill on any particular day. All of these powerful enemies were (and still are) required for the achievement One Many Army.

All sixteen of these "powerful enemies" still exist within the Vale, but they have changed drastically. First and foremost, they have been made rare! Well, I should say "rare". Like just about everything these days they are on fairly short spawn timers. You no longer have to wait days to see one either, all of them can (and will) show up every day - yay! It is also worth noting that they will all spawn in during a server restart.

Another important little detail is that many (but not all) of them have moved. I marked all sixteen of these fledgling rares with bright pink stars on the map below. Several of them spawn in caves/underground, and I have noted that on the map as well. If you scroll down below the map, I also have screenshots of each of them in their new locations.

What you get from killing them:

Killing these rares will give you 220 reputation with Golden Lotus (440 with bonus reputation). They each have a high chance to drop Treasures of the Vale and 2-3 Aged Mogu'shan Cheese, Aged Balsamic Vinegar or Ancient Pandaren Spices.

Elixir of Wandering Spirits - A ghostly Che Wildwalker with pet Kyo
I would like to point out that a fun new item was added to Treasures of the Vale in the last patch: Elixir of Wandering Spirits. This elixir allows you to take on the form of a Golden Lotus Hero for ten minutes.

If you spent a lot of time doing Golden Lotus dailies pre-5.4 you may recognize some of these heroes. A ghostly version of Che Wildwalker (pictured on the right) or Leven Dawnblade, and a sha-touched Rook Stonetoe or Sun Tenderheart are just a few of the possible heroes you can pay tribute to.

You can cast and mount while shape-shifted, and the color/size of your mount will be effected as well. Unfortunately if you log out or use your hearthstone while under the effects the disguise will wear off.

So, without further adieu, here is a map showing where you can find each of these rares. As I mentioned earlier, the bright pink stars are all of the "new" rares. The small colorful circles are the original rare champions.

Click map to Enlarge
Here are some screenshots of these rares in their new locations, with a brief description of their spawn points. I have also listed coordinates. Please be aware that the coordinates for any of the rares that are underground (such as the three in Guo-Lai Halls) will not make sense unless you are underground as well. This is because Guo-Lai Halls has it's own map when you enter it. The coordinates correspond to that map, not the one above. As always, just click any of the images to see a larger version.

Aetha - Spawns where the pond used to be above Mistfall Village, very close to Major Nanners. (35.0, 90.07)

Cracklefang - Found north of Tu Shen Burial Ground surrounded by a gory mess. (46.37, 59.25)

Gaohun the Soul-Severer - Main room in Guo-Lai Halls. (53.44, 59.09)  Entrance at (22.49, 26.9)

General Temuja - Has a small patrol through Winterbaugh Glade (29.76,  57.74)

Gochao the Ironfist - In the small cave at the top of Ruins Rise. (26.92, 13.05)

Huo-Shuang - In the Hall of the Serpent (just beyond the door in Hall of Tiles) in Guo-Lai Halls (63.8, 19.26)

Kri'chon - Spawns right in front of the door, at Gate of the Setting Sun. (6.21, 58.78)

Vicejaw - Sits by the bank of the now-dry Whitepetal Lake. (37.52, 51.14)

Vyraxxis - Found on the wall at (7.93, 33.90)

Wulon - At the very back of the Silent Sanctuary. (45.48, 76.23) Entrance is at (40.25,  77.14)

Moonfang

I don't know about you all, but I've been having a blast so far since patch 5.4 hit. The Timeless Isle is where I've been spending most of my time. Between killing rares for pets, and pet battling for the Celestial Tournament, I have a hard time leaving that place! I've also been driving myself crazy in Proving Grounds on several of my toons trying for the gold. /Shakes fist at waves 9 & 10!

Whatever you've been keeping busy with over the past few weeks -- that's not all of the new content this patch has to offer. This weekend when the Darkmoon Faire floats back from wherever it disappears off to for the rest of the month, we'll have a chance to fight the new boss there - Moonfang!

Now unlike the Darkmoon Rabbit, Moonfang doesn't just spawn in out of the blue. She will only appear after many other (lesser) wolves have been slain throughout the forest. Killing enough non-elite level 89-90 Moonfang Snarlers, will cause a handfull of elite Moonfang Dreadhowls to spawn. The Dreadhowls are more difficult to kill and have a lot more health, but they are soloable. Killing these will eventually lure Moonfang out of her "den". Moonfang spawns right near the "corpse tree" just north of the fairgrounds. I marked the location on the map below. Her spawn timer is roughly an hour.

The fight itself isn't incredibly difficult, but she does have some abilities that you should be aware of.
  • Leap for the Kill - Leap at the target. Enemies in melee range are knocked down and suffer 300% weapon damage as Physical damage. This ability will kill most people, and you have only a second warning before she'll land on you - when she does, SPLAT.
  • Moonfang's Tears - Inflicts weapon damage as Arcane damage every 2 sec. to all enemies in an area for 12 sec. These will be very obvious. Just move out of the white circle on the ground ASAP.
  • Moonfang's Curse - Enemies within 10 yards are transformed into half-wolf servants of Moonfang for 5 min. This will transform players into badass-looking pre-cata style worgen. You'll buff her and help her out and whatnot. Run away asap when you see her casting it.
  • Call the Pack - Summons one Darkmoon Wolf for every enemy within 40 yards. Dps should aoe these down otherwise they'll end up eating your healers.
One of the easier ways I've seen this boss killed, is for the tank to simply kite Moonfang around in a very large circle. Dps and heals can stand in the middle (but not all bunched up obviously) between the trees where Moonfang spawns in. For love love of puppies, if you have aggro please don't run far from her spawn point - she WILL reset.

Moonfang's Spawn Point
Moonfang's Loot:

Shimmering Moonstone is the item that summons a rideable Moonfang. When you summon this mount moonlight will appear all around and then disappear a few seconds later. The glowing crescent moon over it's head will remain.

Using /mountspecial will get this lovely mount howling at the the moon.

Unfortunately this mount cannot be learned. The moonstone will remain in your bag, which you can use to summon this temporary mount. It can only be used while the Darkmoon Faire is in town, and will disappear when the faire leaves.

Moonfang Mount
Moon Moon, is a fun pet that will dance with you when you /dance with him. When he dances he takes the center stage in a beam of moonlight. Multiple people dancing with him will get him changing directions as he dances. Also, like the Spring Rabbit, he will occasionally wander off and then leap back to where your character is standing. When he leaps back through the air he leaves a sparkly blue trail of what I believe is moon dust. ;) To see these animations and pet battle abilities in action, check out Cymre's video on Youtube: Moon Moon (animations and pet battles).

Dancing Moon Moon
Moonfang's Paw is a transformation item that will allow you to look like a little Moonfang for 10 minutes with the buff: Aspect of Moonfang. What's neat about this item is that you can still attack while in this form. It looked like my hunter was shooting arrows out of her wolfy head!

Under the effect of Moonfang's Paw
Using Moonfang Shroud will put a white wolf mask over your characters head. Upon actual use of the item your character will howl at the moon - literally. A crescent moon will briefly appear in front of you when you use the item and then fade away. With only a ten second cooldown, you can howl at the moon to your heart's content.

Moonfang Shroud
Moonfang can also drop another paw. (Poor wolf.) Moonfang's Paw is an item that can be used for transmogrification. (It seem the paw never made it to live.) Moonfang's Pelt is a common drop as well. This item starts the quest Den Mother's Demise, which can be turned in right at the fairgrounds for 10 Darkmoon Prize Tickets.

Anyone who assists in the fight can loot her, and loot is personal just like the Timeless Isle rares.

For anyone interested, I made a short(ish) video showing how to lure Moonfang out of her den, and then of the fight itself. Enjoy!

Neverending Spritewood & Scary Sprites

$

I'm sure by now that most of this post will probably be old news, but hopefully some of you will find some tips I'll be sharing useful in snagging yourself a Dandelion Frolicker pet sooner rather than later.

Take a look at the screenshot below. This is the tree just east of Old Pi'Jiu with the Nice Sprites frolicking merrily around its base. See those purple crystals in the shot? Those are Neverending Spritewood Crystals. There are four of them - all are pictured in the screenshot below. I am showing you all four in one shot so that you can see exactly where each spawns from one vantage point. They cannot and will not spawn in at the same time.

Spawn Time:

On the ptr, and when patch 5.4 went live, the spawn time on the crystals was about an hour. It has since been stealthily changed to about 15 minutes. Which crystal will spawn in next is completely random.

The Crystal "Daily":

You can only interact with the Neverending Spritewood Crystal once per day, per toon. Once you have completed the event, you can see the crystal when it spawns in again, but you will not be able to interact with it. Those of you with more than one level 90 can farm for this pet on multiple toons. I've been farming it daily on three toons myself.

The Fight:

Ok, so the basics are this. Once you interact with the Neverending Spritewood you will immediately receive the Crystal Breaker debuff. This debuff only lasts one minute and makes the sprites aggressive toward you. The aggressive sprites that you aggro will toss Sticky Sap on you through the entire event. This debuff stacks, making gathering them quickly (or fleeing) a little more difficult.

Starting the event by becoming a Crystal Monster! RAWR!
The nice sprites will turn into one of two types of sprites when they attack you. Most of them will become little blue Angry Sprites, but if your lucky several will become larger bright green Scary Sprites. Scary Sprites are the mobs that can drop the adorable Dandelion Frolicker pet. The pet itself has a fairly low chance to drop chance.

Scary Sprite pictured on the right
From my experience so far, it seems that the more sprites you kill, the better chance you will have of getting a Scary Sprite to spawn. Granted it is random though. I've had massive pulls before with only one or two Scary Sprites. I've also had smaller pulls yielding far more Scary Sprites. (When I say this, I do mean after the hotfix on Oct. 9: "Scary Sprite now deals 40% less damage and should spawn slightly more frequently.")

Angry Sprites each have 196k health, and Scary Sprites have 393k. Any sprites not dead after the minute is up and the debuff wears off will turn friendly and run away. The sprites each hit for roughly 5 - 7k, and of course double that when they crit. If you pick up a lot of sprites this damage will add up very quickly. I have watched far too many people pull half the sprites at once only to get eaten alive and die just seconds later. Having some damage mitigation and heals is highly recommended here. If your not sure how many you can take on at once, play it safe. Remember you only have one shot at the event each day per toon.

If you are serious about trying to get this pet, you are going to have to do as much aoe as possible while watching your health. Friends can come in very handy here. Although other players cannot help you kill the sprites, you can still be buffed and healed by them. You can also group with others doing the event and roll if the pet drops even though you were not the one to start it.

There are many many helpful items you can have ready to go for this fight that will increase your dps and survivability significantly. I try to have as many as I can before waiting for the crystal to spawn in each day. I usually average about 300k dps on each of my toons with all of the extra buffs.

Items I highly recommend using for this event:
  • Thick Pi'jiu Brew - This is my favorite item for this event. The amount of aoe damage this does is no less than AMAZING. The Spectral Brewmaster tends to do about 70-80% of the damage when I use my bear tank, and a good 40% - 50% or so on my hunter. Seriously, the dps this little helper does is just insane. Check out the screenshot below for some actual numbers. No matter how much dps you can lay out I still recommend having this item handy. You can get it from the Spectral Brewmaster mobs right nearby in Old Pi'Jiu. It should take no more than a couple of minutes to get one to drop.

So far I have seen the pet drop twice. I've probably killed north of 300 Scary Sprites along the way. Hopefully the rest of you will have better luck in seeing it drop than I did, because that ends up being less than a 1% chance. Ouch!

Anyone who follows this blog has probably noticed that I kind of dropped off the radar recently, and for various reasons. The first is that my little girl, who was born this past April, is becoming increasingly mobile. That being said, I've been spending a lot less time around the computer. Apparently for me less computer time doesn't necessarily mean less WoW related time though. I've whipped out my clay and art supplies and have been working on some Warcraft themed art!

Then, as much as I love WoW, I hate to admit that I have been a little bored in game over the past few weeks/months, only logging on to level battle pets and finish my weekly Celestial Tournament. I have however, been spending more time playing Hearthstone, and I have to say - for a game I thought I'd have no interest in, it has me hooked!

Blizzcon 2013 & Warlords of Draenor Reaction:

Oh how I wish I could have gone to Blizzcon this year. So many wonderful members of the community meeting in one place, the energy, excitement, all of the eye-popping cosplay - let me tell you, I watched my twitter feed feverishly the whole weekend. Had teleporters existed, and I had a free and trustworthy babysitter fall from the sky, I would have been there in a heartbeat! Ah well, hopefully I'll catch the next one.

I'm sure most people weren't too shocked about the announcement for the next expansion with all of the rumors being tossed around the interwebs beforehand. It was a title that just felt right when I first read it, and I was hoping that it wasn't just a rumor. Personally, I can't wait for it. I haven't been this excited about a new xpac since Wrath of the Lich King. It will be so wonderful to see some new life brought back to this game. Maybe I can even talk the hubby into playing with me again!

On the Instant Level 90:

I have pretty mixed emotions on the insta-level 90 toon that we'll all be getting. I think that no matter how these toons get to start off, whether it be the whole Death-Knight style - learning skills a few at a time as you first progress or something else entirely, that level 90 dungeons are going to be messy, especially in LFG. I can just picture it now - the tank is all like "what does this button do?" as a pack of pissed off whatchamacallits are all nom noming on the healer's face, while two of the three dps are off in some other room pulling everything and the remaining dps is picking their nose while watching it all.

I am pleased with the fact that I'll be able to play with my friends on another realm straight off the bat though. I'm thinking that because I already have several 90's on my Alliance server, that I'll most likely end up using my insta-90 to make a Horde toon on Thrall to play with the lovely folks of Trauma II. As for which class/race I'll choose - that's still up in the air. I'll probably end up choosing something that can heal & dps, which has always been my preferred way to play.

Some changes I'm looking forward to:

Character model updates. This this this! I can't wait to see what my Night Elf hunter is going to look like. Boxy hands, and well, everything, was getting pretty old. I'm looking forward to seeing my little gnomes not look like actual boxes any more too. :)

Hunter weapon sound changes. Need I say more? Maybe I'll actually want to use a gun now if it looks nice.

Garrisons. If I spend half as much time working on my Garrison as I did my farm, I'll be there a lot. I haven't read a whole lot into them yet, but from what I have so far - they look awesome.

More unstructured content similar to that on the Timeless Isle. When I had more time to play I didn't mind dailies so much. Now that I have a kiddo in the picture, I very much mind dailies. The little bit of time I do have to log in I want to use to just have fun. The Timeless Isle has allowed me to do just that. Bring on more content like this Blizz, woot!

(War)Crafts or: What I've been spending my time on recently:

For those who read my blog and also follow me on twitter, you've probably already seen a few of the projects I've been working on. I tend to get so excited when I'm almost finished with one that I just tweet to the world what I've done so far before it's even finished. I also snuck in a new page on this blog called "Crafts of War", which has a small version of my etsy shop on it, and will always show my most recent additions.

So yeah, I've been doing some real life jewelcrafting and making a bunch of neat little miniature sculptures. Everything I've done so far is WoW related, and I've been really enjoying myself putting everything together. Until now, I had just been stocking up my store, and didn't want to point it out until I had a few items up. Well, I have a few up now and I have a lot more items in the works. Which brings me to thinking about future plans for this blog...

Where this blog is headed:

I have no plans on abandoning this blog any time soon if that is what you were expecting. I actually have a lot of half-finished posts I've been meaning to work on for what seems like forever. One of those you'll probably see within the next couple of weeks, however don't be surprised if the time between posts starts lengthening out. If I had nothing else going on, there's nothing I would enjoy more than sitting down and writing about rares and other miscellaneous WoW topics, but that just isn't the case. I don't know if my posts regarding the next chapter of WoW will be as in depth as they have this past expansion, but I'll certainly try my hardest to keep them up to the same level no matter what happens.

Until next time, stay safe all of you here in the U.S. during the holiday season coming up. <3

Dustwing - Tamed
Dust be gone! This post had been sitting around for far too long. Between the wee little one, holiday orders for the newly opened etsy store and the holiday season in general, time has been sparse around these here parts.

So anywho, I created a new undead hunter a few months back to level through some of the horde zones post-cata. I finally took my time going through Hillsbrad Foothills, and I've gotta say...wow. This zone is bursting at the seams with rares. There are a total of 24 of them currently. 14 of these rares are tamable by hunters, and 10 of them were added in patch 5.1. This means that the rest of you lowbie undead hunters have no excuse if you don't have a cool pet at this level range!

Let me start off by mentioning my favorite - Dustwing (pictured on the right). He's a level 22 white and yellow moth with a completely unique look. That's right, no other tamable moth in game looks just like this guy. You can find him on Purgation Isle in the southwestern part of the zone. Remember to look up when your looking for him, as he flies pretty high. Also be aware, there are some pretty fearsome worgen just below the area where he patrols.

The second pet that I just had to have when coming out here was Carcinak. Carcinak is a spikey deep sea crab that is dark green in color with some purple/pinkish details along his spine and claws. You can find this clickity clackity fellow where the green slime runs down and meets the sea just south of the Ruins of Southshore. You won't be able to tame another crab that looks like him until leveling up to 84 and finding the Mosstide Crabs in the Jade Forest.

Another one that I thought was a nice addition to the zone is Lopex, the dark grey/black fox. He can be hound hiding in a hollowed out tree stump behind Durnholde Keep. The only other tamable foxes with this exact color-scheme are in Alliance territory, Redridge Mountains to be exact.

I'm sure some people either love or hate seeing the addition of The Dark Prowler to this zone. This level 21 black lion seems to have joined with Pitch in an attempt to make the beloved Humar the Pridelord even less unique looking.

I'm not going to go over all of these rares - there's just too many for that. I've marked them all on the map below though. In the map legend the stars indicate the newest tamable rares added in patch 5.1.

Click map to Enlarge
I've got screenshots of them all below. They are in order not only by level, but also in the same order as on the map legend above. (As always, click on the images to see a larger version.)

Ghostlands - aka Dr. Whitherlimb

$

0
Ghostlands, the low-level Horde (and particularly Blood Elf) leveling zone, has only a single rare that you may stumble across while leveling. That rare is the mad scientist Dr. Whitherlimb.

Dr. Whitherlimb is kind of an interesting rare. When initiating combat with him he will always quote one of these lines:

"It is very kind of you to donate your organs!"

"Be proud, your brain will be put to good use in one of my abominations."

"Excellent! Fresh parts!"

(Well I guess there's no secret as to what he's been up to in Ghostlands...)

Dr. Whitherlimb has some unique abilities in combat. He will throw a Monstrous Elixir on himself that increases his size, strength and heals him. Then there is the debuff that I try to get... Every few seconds he will throw Withering Poison on you, which will make your character super tiny! Classes with pets will easily match (or shrink below) the size of their pet, and the best part is that the debuff lasts a whole 10 minutes so you can be super cute n' little well after he's dead. Yay!

Back in the day (before heirlooms and facerolling everything while leveling) this guy used to be pretty tough. I'm guessing that these days he'd be tough for an ironman challenger, and maybe even someone caught by surprise, but beside that I would assume he's pretty easy now.

Under the effects of Withering Poison
He's got loot that is unique to him that is also worth mentioning. Banshee Rod, Ghoul Hammer and Abomination Cleaver can only be obtained from him.

This crazy doctor can be found patrolling through any one of the four ziggurats in the zone. The Howling Ziggurat and Bleeding Ziggurat are southwest of Tranquillen on either side of the Dead Scar, and the other two are located deep inside of Deatholme. I marked each of his spawn points on the map below. These days he seems to spawn pretty randomly between the four, and has a fairly short respawn timer.

Miscellaneous Rares and Elites of Pandaria

Are you feeling the end of expansion blues? Looking for something different to do when you log in later? Perhaps you should check out some of the lesser known elites and rares around Pandaria. If you like vanity items your in for quite the treat, and with the new toybox feature coming in Warlords of Draenor these won't be taking up any bag space - yippie!!

So anywho, this post has been sizzling in the back of my brain since Mists of Pandaria first went live. Every time I would stumble across an interesting elite that dropped unique loot in the early weeks/months of MoP, I kept telling myself that I had to write up a post on them. Somehow other posts always got priority, but I have to say, I'm glad this one got pushed back because there were several notable elites and rares (even though they don't sport a silver dragon) stealthily added in some of the previous patches.

Most of these elites have very fast spawn timers; as in anywhere from instant to 20 minutes or so. A few of them however are actually rare, and can take several hours between spawns. I have more details below on each of their timers, and if there is nothing written next to a particular elite regarding spawn time then it is on a short timer.

A decently geared level 90 should be able to solo almost everything listed below. I can only speak from a hunter's perspective (I know, cheating class...yadda yadda), but I was able to take down everything (including G'nathus) by myself with an item level of 537.

Click map to Enlarge
The elites listed below are in order by zone level, starting with the lowest (Jade Forest) and moving to the highest (Dread Wastes). As I've stated in the past, mob names are the same color as you'll find them on the map above, and please click on the images to see a larger version. Enjoy!

Jade Forest

Lorbu Sadsummon & Fixxul Lonelyheart

These two warlocks are more or less the same mob from two different factions. They are both level 84 elites with approximately 542k hp with the same warlocky type abilities (shadowbolt & summoning a succubus).

Lorbuu (the gnome) spawns near the Horde starting area and can only be attacked by Horde players. The exact opposite holds true for Fixxul (a goblin) who spawns in a tent in the Twinspire Keep area.

Notable drop: Cracked Talisman

Martar the Not-So-Smart

Martar is a neutral elite that patrols in the wide open area north of The Arboretum.

When attacked he says: "No! Martar's treasure is Martar's!" Well, I wouldn't exactly call his loot "treasure"...

Martar has about a 30% chance to drop Martar's Magnifying Glass. When summoned as a companion Martar will remain level 86 with 184k hp.

The rest of his loot table has me wondering about this guy... Martar is the only mob in game that not only drops steamy romance novels, he actually seems to own the entire collection!

Sungraze Behemoth

Sungraze Behemoth is a level 86 neutral mushan.

It's a little hard to tell exactly where this guy is by looking at a map because he's practically in three different zones. When you head over the bridge from The Jade Forest into Valley of the Four Winds, take an immediate right and keep following the river north. You'll find him snoozing on the Murky Bank, just below The Veiled Stair.

He has a 100% chance to drop Oddly-Shaped Horn, which allows you to ride a ginormous mushan (unfortunately only three times).

Using the Oddly-Shaped Horn
Krasarang Wilds

Feverbite

Feverbite is not a mob that you'll likely run into while wandering around the dense forest of Krasarang. This is because this elite mob needs to be "summoned" in order to kill her.

In order to get her to spawn you'll need to kill a lot of level 1 Feverbite Hatchlings. These little spiders can be found in one area in the forest (18, 45). I estimate that I killed about 100 or so before she showed up for me. When enough are killed, she'll spawn in right smack in the middle of the clearing.

She has a 100% chance to drop Feverbite Egg Sack.

Using the Feverbite Egg Sack
Booms

Booms is a level 90 undead priest that is hostile toward both factions. You'll find him in the far south of Krasarang on a pirate ship just off the western coast of Unga Ingoo (the most southern isle).

When attacked he says: "Time to pay the toll!" This is in reference to the player this npc is named after. Long ago, in the Vanilla days of WoW, there was an undead priest named Booms who would mind control people at Menthil Harbor and force them to pay a toll to his Alliance alt in order to ride the ship.

This npc will mind control you if you have a pet out. Hunters, warlocks, all you pet peeps, just put that pet away for this fight.

He has a 100% chance to drop a Small Bag of Goods.

Although this guy is not a silver dragon, he still has quite the spawn timer on him. Technically he's more rare than the rare champions across Pandaria...

Kun-Lai Summit

Zhing

Zhing is a neutral goat that patrols the flat area in the mountains northeast of Winter's Blossom. He's easy to spot because he has a whole posse of goats with him.

Zhing's companions will help him out when attacked, so be sure to take them out first in order to make the fight easier.

He has a 100% chance to drop Bag of Kafa Beans. This item allows you to ride a giant version of Zhing (unfortunately they are only three short rides).

Using Bag of Kafa Beans
Wild Onyx Serpent

His name says it all. This hostile level 90 wind serpent flies high (and very fast) above Mount Neverest.

In order to kill this guy your going to have to get his attention. My recommendation would be to stand on the mountain, wait for him to come by, and then hit him with a ranged attack. There is a nice flat spot that you can stand and reach him at 46.5, 52.9.

Alternatively you can also body pull him while on your flying mount, but be careful - he can stun and dismount you midair.

This guy now has a 100% chance to drop Serpent's Cache

Even though this mob doesn't sport a silver dragon, he is still technically "rare". His timer seems to be at least a couple of hours.

Waiting for the Serpent at 46.5, 52.9

Huggalon the Heart Watcher

I just love this mob, and so should you! This poor giant just wants a hug! <3

I first ran into this guy while questing a while back with my husband, and I have to say - I did a double take. Look at that huge pink bow on his head! I almost felt bad killing him.

Huggalon is a neutral level 92 elite giant with 4.2M hp. When we took him out on our leveling toons he seemed pretty tough. Coming back on a geared level 90 - well, let's just say the tables had turned.

Huggalon drops a neat vanity item called the B. F. F. Necklace. My hubby's toons all seem to have a permanent B.F.F. buff now. The buff lasts a whole 24 hours. ;)

Another interesting tidbit about this guy is that he seems to have gotten left out of Vault of Archavon. Earth, Fire, Wind and Water are represented in there - but why no Heart!? Yeah, I always thought Heart was kind of silly myself, but come on...he looks so sad! (I used to watch that show with a passion when I was a kiddo.)

You'll find Huggalon inside the Niuvao Catacombs. I've included a little map below of the catacombs layout. Huggalon is right where my character is standing in the screenshot. To see if he's up without going into the catacombs, just head to the middle of the island and to a /target huggalon. If it doesn't target him then he isn't up.

Huggalon spawns where my character is standing on the map
Scotty

Scotty is a level 89 sprite with 1.6M hp. This little guy doesn't put up much of a fight, but holy moly - he's not an easy one to find. I can safely say that there's no way your going to run into him while doing dailies on Sra'Vess.

Scotty is VERY well hidden in a small alcove within the tree roots of the giant tree on the center of the island. To find the entrance to the alcove your going to want to find the mantid building located at 21.6, 46.7. If you are looking directly at the building, the entrance is a small opening between the tree roots above and behind the left side of the building. I highlighted the entrance in the screenshot below.

Scotty drops a neat transformation item called Scotty's Lucky Coin. This coin has three charges and will make you look just like Scotty. Unfortunately entering combat, mounting, etc. will pop you out of this form. On the plus side, using emotes while under the effect actually works unlike many other transformation items.

Entrance to Scotty's alcove. (Click to Enlarge)
G'nathus

G'nathus is a very large eel boss with 43M hp who patrols the waters north of Shan'ze Dao.

With a spawn timer of roughly 10 minutes or so, this guy is totally farmable, at least he is by hunters. I'm not sure about other classes, but I imagine warlocks could pull it off as well.

Simply have your pet tank him, and stay as far from him as possible to avoid his Arc Nova. Remember to keep your pet healed, but even if you forget it's not the end of the world. Pets don't seem to take a whole lot of damage from him. The most important thing to remember in your rotation is Misdirect. As long as your pet is tanking and your not getting hit by his aoe, he will die. It usually takes me about 6-7 minutes to kill him while doing about 120k dps. (I seriously wish I would have tried killing this guy sooner!)

He has a 100% chance to drop a very pretty looking battle pet that looks exactly like him: Spawn of G'nathus.

Dread Wastes

Pensong

Pensong is a huge level 90 white yak that patrols a very small area on the hillside just west of Soggy's Gamble.

There really isn't anything special as far as fighting him is concerned. He should be pretty easy peasy for most.

This fellow drops a Tuft of Yak Fur, which lets you ride on a giant white yak (3 times).

I want a yak this big!
Gokk'lok

Gokk'lok is a level 91 clam with a whopping 16M hp that can be found on the sea floor west of Rikkitun Village.

When near Gokk'lok you will be granted with the Enchanted Essence buff, so you won't need to worry about coming up for air.

The fight with this clammy fellow is not particularly difficult, it just has the potential to last a while given his health pool. Adds will periodically show up to help him out, but I never found them overwhelming.

When killed, his giant pearl is immediately whisked away by sprites and you will auto-accept the quest:  Promises of Gold. The quest reward is a fun vanity item called Gokk'lok's Shell.

Gokk'lok's Shell
The Veiled Stair

Willy Wilder

"I've got a golden ticket, I've got a golden ticket!" Oh wait, that's from something else...

Willy Wilder is a level 90 non-elite rare that spawns near the Black Market Auction House. (He even sports a silver dragon!)

This guy is quite the riot to watch when he arrives. He'll walk right up next to you, bid on - and then apparently win an auction.

When he wins he blurts out "YES! Finally! I won a Brawler's Guild invite! Nobody can stop me now!". He'll then run all around the Auction House saying things like " I won a Brawler's Guild invitation just now! I'll surely be rank 8 by tonight! I sure hope I don't lose my ticket before I get there." and "Everyone look! I won a Brawler's Guild invite! I can't wait to try it out!". Ok, so I guess his loot is pretty obvious at this point. He has a 100% chance to drop a Blood-Soaked Invitation, so if your heading to the BMAH to snag one be sure to look around for this guy while your there.

His spawn timer is quite lengthy (well, at least for a rare in Pandaria). His timer seems to be about five hours right on the nose.

Along the Shorelines

Clawlord Kril'mandar <The Pinch King> and his Makrura Elite

Clawlord Kril'mander is a summoned level 90 elite with approximately 3.1M hp.

In order to summon him you will need to put together a Clamshell Band from the shells of the six Makrura elites scattered across the shorelines of Pandaria. Each of their locations are marked in red on the above map.

When you kill one of these Makrura (it doesn't matter which one you kill first) you will receive it's corresponding shell, as well as a waterlogged Shado-Pan missive: Troubles From Without (for the full text click through the link to Wowhead). Each makrura has a 100% change to drop their shell.

They each have their own unique abilities, but all of them should be easily soloable by most (perhaps all) classes at level 90.

Once you have acquired all six shells, you can put them together to make the band which will summon the final boss. Clawlord Kril'mander can be summoned at the tiny island in Krasarang Wilds south of Domination Point (12.70, 81.7). You'll know that your in the right place when you see a large shell in the middle called "Kril'mandar's Emblem" (see screenshot below). Simply use the band in this location and he will appear. (Be sure that you are ready to kill him when you summon him, once summoned the band will be used up and you will not be able to summon him again.)

Summoning The Pinch King!
He has a 100% chance to drop Lobstmourne, a rather appropriate weapon for The Pinch King.
